Western's Mustang Parents & Supporters Newsletter

As a parent or supporter of a new Western student, you play an integral role in helping them thrive during their transition to university and beyond. As your student embarks on their university journey, they look to you for guidance and support.

We want to make sure that you are equipped with tips and strategies to tackle some of the challenges you and your student may face in the coming year, and support you in your own transition from the parent or supporter of a high schooler to a first year university student.

Through these newsletters, we hope to provide you with knowledge and understanding of the resources that exist to support your student at Western. Please encourage your students to make use of the resources available to them and ask them to connect with resources as they navigate this exciting new chapter. We are eager to work alongside you, support your student and welcome them into the Mustang community.

Summer Academic Orientation (SAO) is a free program to assist incoming students with their course selection, help answer questions about programs and services on campus and support students in feeling confident to thrive during their time at Western. SAO is offered to any student admitted to main campus, first year undergraduate programs. This year we are offering a number of ways for students to connect with staff remotely.

Vaccinations & Residence

Western is strongly encouraging all members of the campus community to get vaccinated as soon as they can. The University and its affiliated University Colleges (Brescia, Huron and King's) will require students living in residence to have received at least a first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine before their arrival, assuming Ontario's supply allows. Those who can't access the shot will have 14 days following their move-in date to get vaccinated on campus. Those who for medical or other protected grounds under the Ontario Human Rights Code cannot be vaccinated may request an accommodation.
